As a young engineer I went to Detroit to observe a cold weather test. It was in the early 60's. It was Winter and it was colder in California than Detroit - strange. It was the first time east of the Sierras. What struck me was how old and worn out Detroit looked compared to San Jose. I guess the weather and an additional 76 years can wear a city out.
Nice writing, Ross. Californias nature is beautiful but its cities are unlivable and it has lost population for the first time. SVB might be another nail in the coffin. Single party rule has destroyed Cali: https://yuribezmenov.substack.com/p/how-to-visit-karenland-fupaz-part-e69
