I am a Burr family descendant and what you write is what I have always heard. Research bears it out. Vidal describes Aaron Burr as an 18th Century Man living in the 19th Century. It's an apt description.

That's amazing you're a descendant!

I'm one of thousands of descendants of a man named Jehu Burr who arrived in Massachusetts with the Winthrop Fleet in 1635 with his wife and young son. Aaron Burr was another descendant of Jehu, but he left no acknowledged heirs.

Good luck with your project!

Cool, I will definitely put the book about your ancestor on my shelf!

For every self-published novel by a Substack alt-lit guy on this list that escaped any other mention this year, I can't help but think of Hideo Kojima saying "Just saw Madame Web." ;')

But this is a good list. I hope that the Donohue "Saturday Night Fever" book inspires an essay about that film. A sequel to "The Outer Borough Mind!" Although, then I think of the actual "Saturday Night Fever" sequel, and think better of that idea...

Very interesting essay and impressive list! But when I searched for Jennifer Pan's "Selling Anti-Racism" I found only Jennifer Pan's "Selling Social Justice: Why the Ruling Class Loves Anti-Racism." Same book?

I think all that is part of the Great Awokening.,. Bye bye DEI 😂

I picked up “Burr” a couple months ago, after hearing it was Vidal’s best novel. I found it fascinating in places, but what I thought was more interesting was how Vidal’s iconoclasm in 1973 — chipping away at the glory of the founders, whispering about Jefferson and his enslaved mistress(es?) — is now the norm.

As a novel, I give it a mixed review. As a harbinger of things to come, though, it was intriguing. (Still prefer Vidal’s essays, despite occasional haughtiness and tinges of anti-Semitism … which, in Vidal’s case, is part and parcel with his prickliness.)

Thanks for the mini review

"Curious to think that we would almost certainly have been friends had we not been two young 'heroes' at the beginning of a new nation, each aware that at the summit there is a place for only one. As it turned out, neither of us was to reach the highest place. I hurled Hamilton from the mountain-side, and myself fell." - Burr, Gore Vidal

“I behaved honourably and, as Theodosia foretold, I have regretted it all my life.”

A statement, Bernie Sanders could never use, Truthfully.

Oh yeah?

I think I have an answer to my own question, “Did the far left purposely put Trump in power?”

It’s one of those answers, not unlike what the far left did in England during the Brexit vote. Many on the far left in England voted for Brexit, by the millions, not because they wanted it, because they thought it would destroy the English economy, and that could help them get to power. It didn’t work, although Brexit hasn’t been a success by any means, it didn’t help the far left.

The English still didn’t want them. Although the labor party won the Prime Minister office, he has turned out to be a moderate like the Democratic Party in America.

The far left is just irresponsible, they’re petulant, immature, arrogant, and full of themselve. People don’t like them. The reason Democrats have a 38% approval rating is because of the far left and their bullshit “defund the police“ stupidity.

They are basically dictators like Trump. If you don’t agree with them completely, you’re the enemy. They’re like Trump, it’s their way or the byway. They call Democratic negotiation “moving to the middle.”

The two elections Democrats lost this century to the worst presidents in history is because the far left denigrated the Democrats choice. There wouldn’t be a GOP president in this century it wasn’t for them.

It’s nebulous whether they did it on purpose they’re not that smart. Basically it happened because they’re stupid.

They helped install a dictator because they didn’t like democracy as it is. To much work. You don’t always get your way. And they keep saying, “democrats lost because the keep moving to the middle.”

Now we are in a far right dictatorship, and they are still blaming democrats.

Will this finally bring them to power? No. But we may have lost America for good. They didn’t like it anyway.

But what is still important is, how it happened. The truth must be told, it was the adults in the middle trying to make democracy work. To keep it out of the hands of radical fringe groups too lazy, too petulant, to do the work needed to implement, operate, manage the function of democracy to succeed.

Labour identifiers made up a substantial portion of the electorate and roughly one-third of them voted Leave, that could represent several million Leave votes from the far left, even though the majority of Leave voters came from the right and centre. they were not for Brexit. They were only for tearing down the English economy because they wanted socialism.

That’s basically not unlike the far left in America. You notice they call themselves social Democrats now. But Bernie called himself a socialist and they destroyed Hillary Clinton for Bernie and that’s why we have Trump so now they’re trying to soften their image by calling themselves social Democrats, but are they really still socialist?

In any case they helped Trump win the election, and destroyed the Democratic Party purposely. So whatever their motive they are the culprit that the far right used to gain power. They have been the best tool and the toolbox For the far right since they gave the election to George W. Bush to deny the Democrats the environmentalist Al Gore.

And just to outdo themselves, they denied Hillary Clinton, who would possibly have been the best president America has ever had. And ironically, she could’ve got all the things the far left say they want. Bernie and the far left cost Hillary about 5 million votes. Far beyond what would’ve won the election, including the electoral college..

We have Trump because of the far left .
