Pub Day!
Colossus, in the world
I’ll make this one quick, since you’ve got a great deal on your plate already. Today is publication day for my novel, Colossus, which is about a pastor in the Midwest who harbors a dark secret. Please buy it now wherever books are sold. You can order from Bookshop, Barnes & Noble, Amazon, or anywhere else you’d like.
The coverage has been strong so far. In Compact, Stephen Adubato writes “Barkan is a master of building suspense. His previous novel had me turning page after page to get to the climax, but Colossus gripped my attention even more—to the point that I couldn’t help but continue reading as I walked from the subway onto the street, deterred neither by the raindrops ruining the book’s pages nor the pedestrians glaring at me.” And in The Arts Fuse, Bill Littlefield writes that “the risk of entrusting the narration of a contemporary novel to a character who so closely resembles contemptible figures in the headlines is that readers will dismiss Colossus as only being a political statement. Barkan is good enough of a writer to have avoided that trap.”
I had the pleasure of appearing on two more great podcasts to discuss Colossus. First, hear me on The Booking Club with Jack Aldane; this one was very fun because we recorded it at a restaurant in Tribeca. Vincenzo Barney might have been lurking. And then get to Salt Lake Dirt for another fascinating conversation on the novel and my writing life.
I’m finalizing my schedule of events for a little tour. It starts tonight, in Manhattan, where we’re having a party. Entrance is free. Nightclub 101, 101 Avenue A. 7 p.m. See you there. Reserve your slot.
Please get a ticket, too, to my formal launch and book talk on May 11th at P&T Knitwear in Manhattan. We’ve got a few left.
And I’ll have more to share shortly about events I’m having in Los Angeles, San Francisco, and Ottawa.

Congratulations Ross! Enjoyed your last novel so I’m interested in reading this
