Ross, my issue with this is the same as I had with a Jane Mayer article in New Yorker on "dark money in politics." A progressive winning their election "just happens", while a progressive LOSING is because of the Koch brothers and pro-Israel money. One gets the impression that there's something wrong when "the Israeli lobby" participates in politics, but it's praiseworthy when "activists" do.
Do progressives receive big donations, in money and in kind, from Hollywood or left-wing billionaires? Do NGOs and teacher unions contribute? Isn't that equally newsworthy?

That being said, the NYT editorial staff and fact checking seems to have been AWOL since 2016 or so, as they printed every bit of the Russia / Trump hoaxes, all in real time.
One of the forces that pulled me to alt media / Substack was the obvious willingness to be an activist, not a journalist, on the part of the NYT.
Greenwald and Taibbi, as well as others, exposed the NYT in ways that were unthinkable as recent as the early 2000’s.
My 76 year old mother gets the paper. I’ll have her save the magazine for me.

George Soros and Reid Hoffman deploy far more dark money than the Koch brothers, but leftist propagandists will never report on that.
