To put it mildly, one would never expect someone like me to subscribe, but I did, and it’s been great. I get my views pushed around, and I get the best NYC political analysis out there.
You are one of the few journalists who have covered the three cycles of pivotal losses for Dems in NYS. Why do you think many journalists and pundits would sooner comment on the conflict in Gaza then on what is happening in NY? I was shocked that many, notwithstanding some prodding, have left people with the impression that we were not decimated on LI? Thanks.
How can we get Israel to stop committing genocide against the Palestinians? At least Netanyahu is less popular in Israel than among U. S. mainstream politicians.
How can NYC get large development projects done while keeping commitments to the people who already live in the area? I live by Atlantic Yards/Pacific Park and Barclays Center. We were promised affordable housing, jobs for locals, a new school and more. Barclays Center has been open for more than a decade and our neighborhood has absorbed the crowds, price increases, and traffic - but few if any of the benefits have materialized for Prospect Heights.
Bloomberg made a lot of worthless promises in exchange for upzonings for his developer buddies. The North Brooklyn waterfront would never have never gotten the parks it was promised in the 2005 rezoning if they didn't have an exceptionally well-organized activist infrastructure in place. One that was willing to fight tooth and nail for fifteen years. And they still haven't gotten a lot of what they were supposed to have had.
Any commitments that are not fully funded and enforceable are worthless!
Do you think the death of newsstands with the covers of the NYPost and Daily News across the city and drop in NYers with cable/access to NY1 creates an environment where politicians don’t have to be as accountable? I don’t sense NYers are aware of what’s going on with Mayor Adams.
Two questions: 1) I don't know a lot of journalists who are so focused on a particular region/state as you. But have you, out of curiosity, come across others who focus like you do on particular regions, and if so who would they be?
2) If, hypothetically, a progressive Democrat a la Jamaal Bowman were to run for Governor and defeat Hochul, what kind of power would they have to reshape the Democratic Party in New York? Could such a governor unilaterally fire Jay Jacobs? Would centrists be able to reorganize new local party clubs in ways that cut the Governor out?

To add to question 2: wouldn't we be better off if Bowman primaries Adams?
I'd prefer he fought a fight he could actually win, and I have yet to meet a person who thinks he has a snowball's chance in hell of beating Hochul.
