It has been some time since I last did a mailbag and I figure, with all our new readers, I’m due. Submit your questions and I’ll answer them—simple as that. They can be policy questions, something more personal, or whatever is on your mind. You can ask about me, ask about the world … whatever you’d like. I’ll do my best to answer as many as I can. I’ll publish the Q&A in a little bit. To submit, simply reply to this email when it hits your inbox.
This mailbag is not limited to paying subscribers. Most Substack newsletters make that a privilege and I understand why. It’s a great incentive to get more of you to sign up. I do paywall some pieces, as you probably know, but I still try to keep my writing free.
(If you’re already paying, just ignore this. Thank you!)
I still write for other publications and I’m proud of that work. But I do see Political Currents, though, as a different sort of project—where I can be my unvarnished self and bring you writing you won’t find elsewhere. I’ll tell you how Eric Adams has actually failed New York, what crises really drive media, how left and right misunderstand Israel, and the strange discourse over identity. And if you want exegeses on the Zodiac killer and the Beach Boys, you’ll find that too.
When you subscribe, you promise sustainability for Political Currents and my ability to keep writing for you. I love doing this. I certainly can keep it up if you become a paying subscriber.
Thank you for all you do. Have a great Thanksgiving and I’ll have another piece here shortly!
Best,
Ross
To put it mildly, one would never expect someone like me to subscribe, but I did, and it’s been great. I get my views pushed around, and I get the best NYC political analysis out there.
You are one of the few journalists who have covered the three cycles of pivotal losses for Dems in NYS. Why do you think many journalists and pundits would sooner comment on the conflict in Gaza then on what is happening in NY? I was shocked that many, notwithstanding some prodding, have left people with the impression that we were not decimated on LI? Thanks.
