How about Morales' bribe thing--- Both Morales and Garcia (who is McIver, white lady..., adopted) are Stuyvesant HS grads as is Yang's wife. :)

As a practical matter, does the DoS have to deal much with Albany? Do we have any evidence that Garcia, or indeed, any of the candidates for mayor, have the guile and political chops necessary to navigate that dynamic and those relationships? This was De Blasio's greatest weakness, though you need to apportion a fair amount of blame there to Cuomo.

"But in Garcia, there is a lack of sweep. She may make a great mayor and is, on the merits, the most qualified person seeking the office this year. This is why she is winning support, especially in professional quarters. De Blasio campaigned on bringing a universal pre-K program to New York, and then implemented it. Garcia has no signature, memorable program of her own, and she does not try to stretch imaginations."

I'd argue that Garcia's plan for free daycare for families earning up to $70k is in the same league as universal pre-K. And she has framed her plan for a "true green future" with 150 million square feet of new green infrastructure (including turning Rikers into a renewable energy zone, greening school roofs & blacktops, investing in offshore wind power, and more) as her UPK (https://www.gothamgazette.com/city/10397-whats-your-upk-mayor-candidates-big-ideas). She also has a whole bunch of other targeted yet high-impact plans (i.e., ensuring 100% uptake among eligible NYC'ers in SNAP & Mediciad, layering a new hot-meals subsidy on top of SNAP, and so on).

The pushback from the left to Garcia's new momentum seems to be circling around the characterization that she has the pragmatism while other candidates have the vision. But maybe she's just found the sweet spot of both pragmatism and vision. As she puts it, "practical progressivism."
