Great post- absolutely correct - lots of wishful thinking happening right now. The prospect horrifies me, but why wouldn’t Carlson run for president? What does he have to lose? He knows what messaging would be effective, I’m sure he knows enough people to raise the money. He apparently hates Trump and would love to dominate him. And if he wins- the general or even just the primary- he knows Fox will have no choice but come groveling back to him. Worst case he’ll just raise his profile for whatever else he wants to do going forward. What am I missing?

I think he does have something to lose by losing to Trump, that is the esteem of the Trump right. In their eyes, Trump's foes usually just end up looking like emasculated embarrassments when he's done with them, like most of the 2016 Republican lineup. The more frightening idea for me is him running in an election without having to face Trump. I've always thought he had a better shot at the nomination than anyone.

Fantastic post, thank you. I wonder if all this is good for us as a nation. Or will this continue to bifurcate Americans into two camps. Those who rely on the skepticism of independent journalists vs. those who prefer their socialized views along with a daily tablespoon of dopamine.

DeSantis’ problem was he was gaining ground when he looked like he would be a serious populist candidate. I.E. moving in a Trump direction but being a far more policy focused and way less problematic candidate. Then things hit a snag. The GOP establishment has pretty much let the cat out of the bag that they want to destroy any traces of populism in the party and take it back to the Bush/Regan era of neoconservatism and they see DeSantis as their only way of doing that. Apparently they forgot that other people can listen to the things they say and read what they write. Nikki Haley is currently kicking nowhere and it turns of Pense's national abortion ban is not all that popular even among Republicans. Where I think DeSantis made his fatal mistake was when he quickly backtracked on Carlson's Ukraine questionnaire. While the substance of the question was important, the bigger problem was DeSantis started reversing and sucking up to the donor class when he got just a little pushback. If he has no backbone what would be the difference between him and say another Romney? The endorsements of these people is not helping Ron, they are sinking him. Well that six week abortion ban is not going to help. People keep saying that Trump is a cult of personality. Trust me, most 2016 Trump voters would be happy to move on if they had a good alternative. Have you seen the alternatives lately?

These people are really good at what they do. I feel like I'm watching the movie "Network" all over again.

I'll miss Tucker's solution free rants - just like Beale's but modernized.

I think he and the recently fired Don Lemon will create a new show called "Tucker's Lemons" and stream it in real time on D-Live. I sure hope so.
