Excellent analysis. This is why I subscribed.

I will note that the "Progressive victories / reforms" are all bad policies that are causing people to leave the state. Getting rid of cash bail and paying tuition for illegal immigrants are not good policies.

An eternal claim by supporters of NY third parties is that they delivered the votes that enabled a Democrat or Republican to win. Almost all those votes on the WFP line that went to Hochul would have voted for her as a Democrat if they had no choice (as is the case in every other state where multiple party lines aren't allowed). How many of Zeldin's Conservative Party votes would have been lost if he was only listed as a Republican?

Hey Ross - thanks for all your work exposing NY politics. I am publishing a long farewell to NYC on Sunday. Would you be willing to amplify? Happy to share a draft in advance - yuribezmenov22 [at] protonmail. Here's a sample of my writing on NYC and urban decay: https://yuribezmenov.substack.com/p/how-to-visit-karenland-fupaz-part-462

Great article. Living in nyc it certainly feels like general public support for the progressives peaked in 2020 and the pendulum has been swinging back the other way since. I’m not surprised that Hochul would less concerned with them than Cuomo.

That’s kind of the question though, right? Does she in fact believe in stuff? Does she want anything besides ‘to be governor’?
